Best & worst Economy seats on the Boeing 777
The 777 carries more long-haul passengers than any other widebody — and on most airlines it's the densest, because Economy is 10-abreast (3-4-3). Here's how to pick a good seat anyway, on both the 777-300ER and the older 777-200ER, with a map for every airline that flies them. Free, no signup. Verified 2026-05.
What to know before you pick a 777 seat
- It's 3-4-3 almost everywhere — ten seats per row at ~17 in wide. The four-across centre block is where comfort goes to die; the whole game is avoiding E and F.
- The Japan Airlines exception — JAL flies a 9-abreast 3-3-3, one of the roomiest 777 cabins anywhere.
- Sit forward of the wing for quiet — engine and wing noise builds toward the rear, and the aft galley adds traffic.
- Exit rows are the legroom jackpot — often around rows 44–45 on the -300ER (34–38 in on the -200ER's), but they may not recline and the exact rows vary by carrier.
Boeing 777-300ER · 3-4-3 · 250–396 seats
High-capacity long-haul flagship on the busiest intercontinental routes. Typically 31–32 in pitch, 17–17.2 in wide.
✅ Best Window A/K in the mid-cabin — one neighbour, a real window.
⛔ Avoid Middle block D/E/F/G — solo flyers are flanked on both sides.

How to pick a seat on any 777
Seats run A-B-C · D-E-F-G · H-J-K (no I — it looks like a 1). A and K are the true windows; C and H are the aisles with only one neighbour; D and G give the centre block aisle access. E and F are the seats to give up last. Use the interactive map on each variant's page to tap any seat for the "why".
Frequently asked questions
What are the best seats on a Boeing 777-300ER?
In the common 3-4-3 Economy layout, the winners are the A and K windows in the mid-cabin (one neighbour and a wall to lean on), the C and H aisles (you step out without climbing over anyone), and the exit rows — often around rows 44–45, though the exact row varies by carrier. Forward of the wing is also the quieter end of the cabin.
Which seats should I avoid on a Boeing 777?
The middle of the centre block (E and F in the D-E-F-G quad) — a solo flyer is flanked on both sides. Also the very last row (little or no recline, next to the galley and lavatories), and the row directly in front of an exit row, which usually doesn't recline either. On many 777s a bulkhead's second row hides an IFE box that steals foot space.
Why does Economy on the 777 feel tighter than other jets?
Because most airlines — Emirates included — fly the 777 10-abreast (3-4-3), which squeezes seat width to about 17 in, tighter than an A350 or 787 in their standard layouts. A few carriers, notably Japan Airlines, still fly a roomier 9-abreast 3-3-3 — if comfort matters, the airline you pick matters more than the row.
What's the difference between the 777-200ER and 777-300ER?
Two lengths of the same twin-jet. The 777-300ER is the stretched, newer flagship (roughly 250–396 Economy seats) that dominates long-haul today; the 777-200ER is shorter (255–320 seats) and older — many are 20+ years old, so seat and screen quality varies a lot more. Seat logic is the same on both: windows and aisles first, centre block last.
Which airlines fly the Boeing 777?
It's the backbone of long-haul flying: Emirates (the world's largest 777 operator), Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Air France, KLM, United, American, Air Canada, Turkish, ANA, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Etihad and LATAM all fly it. Is this a SeatGuru alternative for the 777?
Yes. SeatGuru shut down in November 2025, so this is a free, no-signup replacement: pick your 777 variant for a colour-coded best/worst Economy map you can tap seat by seat. Guidance is by aircraft type (airlines tweak rows and pitch), so for an airline-exact map we link aeroLOPA and SeatMaps.com.
⚠️ General guidance by aircraft type — exact rows, pitch and exits vary by airline and cabin reconfiguration. Check your airline's own seat map or aeroLOPA before selecting. Verified 2026-05.
