Best & worst Economy seats on the Airbus A330 & A330neo
The A330's 2-4-2 Economy is the secret comfort pick of long-haul flying: there is no true middle seat anywhere on the aircraft, and the window pairs are the best couple seats in the sky. Here's where to sit on the classic A330-300 and the modernised A330-900neo. Free, no signup. Verified 2026-05.
Why savvy flyers pick the A330
- No middle-of-three seat exists — 2-4-2 means every seat is a window, an aisle, or one seat from an aisle.
- Window pairs (A-B / J-K) are couple gold — a private two-seat unit with a window and an aisle.
- The neo upgrade is real — the A330-900neo's Airspace cabin adds bigger bins and sculpted seatbacks with more knee room at the same pitch.
- The trade-off: centre E/F seats still have two neighbours, and the rear rows sit in galley traffic — row choice still matters.

How to pick a seat on any A330
Seats run A-B · D-E-F-G · J-K (no C, H or I). Couples: book an A-B or J-K pair and the row is yours. Solo: D or G puts one neighbour beside you and the aisle at your elbow. Families do well across the D-E-F-G quad. Mid-forward rows are quietest; exit rows (~rows 20–21 on the neo) add legroom. Tap any seat on the variant pages for the specific "why".
Frequently asked questions
What are the best seats on an Airbus A330?
The window pairs — A-B on the left, J-K on the right. In the A330's 2-4-2 layout those pairs have one neighbour at most, which makes them the best couple seats on any widebody: window and aisle together, nobody to climb over. Solo? Take D or G, the centre-quad aisles. Mid-forward rows are served first and sit away from both galleys.
Which seats should I avoid on the A330?
E and F — the two true centre seats in the quad, with two neighbours each. Also the last 3–4 rows (no recline, galley and lavatory noise, last off the plane) and the first Economy bulkhead row if you want under-seat storage. On the A330neo, the final aisle seats near the aft galley get bumped constantly.
Why is the A330's 2-4-2 layout so traveller-friendly?
Eight-abreast means there is no middle-of-three seat anywhere on the aircraft — every seat is a window, an aisle, or one seat from an aisle. For couples the window pairs are a private two-seat unit; for solo flyers even the worst seat is only one hop from the aisle. It's the least-bad Economy layout of any widebody.
What's the difference between the A330-300 and the A330-900neo?
The A330-900neo is the re-engined, modernised version: new engines, and Airbus's "Airspace" cabin with bigger overhead bins, better lighting and sculpted seatbacks that free up knee room — so at the same 31–32 in pitch it feels roomier than the classic A330-300. Row logic is identical on both: chase the window pairs, avoid E/F and the last rows.
Why do A330 seat letters skip C and H?
Airbus's 8-abreast convention letters the rows A-B · D-E-F-G · J-K, skipping C, H and I. So B and J are aisle seats — not middles — and there's no seat I on any Airbus (it reads like a 1).
Which airlines fly the A330 and A330neo?
The classic A330-300 flies with Delta, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Turkish, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, Qantas, Air Canada, Korean Air, Iberia and Aer Lingus among others; the A330-900neo flies with Delta (whose map we cover) plus carriers like TAP Air Portugal, Malaysia Airlines and Condor.
